Nature in Art

The policy of the Nature in Art Education service is to encourage young people to
learn through practical activities and new experiences, and to have fun, enabling
them to develop interpersonal skills whilst acquiring relevant knowledge in a stimulating
environment. Schools are warmly encouraged to make full use of the exhibits in the
museum collection and the facilities in the purpose-
Staff also offer an 'in schools service' with talks, films, slide presentations and
practical sessions on a wide range of art and environmental issues. We can accommodate
varying group sizes, usually between 25 -
The Nature in Art education programme was specially commended in the 'Best Education
Programme in a Museum' category of the 1995 National Heritage Museum of the Year
Awards.
Nature in Art's education programme has twice been featured in the Times Educational
Supplement and offers tailor made days ensuring the individual aspirations of schools
are met. Infants, secondary school students, college and university groups as well
as those with special needs are all welcome to take part in programmes designed just
for them. As a result, FREE PRELIMINARY VISITS FOR TEACHERS are available (and encouraged)
to give them the opportunity to be involved in planning a really beneficial visit.
Days tightly linked to the national curriculum (particularly, but not exclusively,
in art, science, geography, maths, technology and cross-
Staff at the museum have additional expertise in the fields of environment, conservation and the global dimension and are keen to help schools who are (or want to) address and incorporate these themes in their teaching. We have resources to support these themes.
